Obtaining State of
California Identification
A Client how does not have ID
should be advised to call/go to the
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and
request an appointment.
-
The DMV is located
nearby at 111 W. Alma, about 1 mile away.
Go South on Vine St., then turn left on
Alma, and the DMV is a couple of blocks
down on the left.
The client does not have to apply for a
Driver's License. The DMV will issue
an ID for someone who simply needs some form
of identification but does not intend to
operate a motor vehicle.
Homeless Clients:
For
homeless clients, the usual issue is the
lack of a street address to use for an ID.
Homeless clients can do one of the
following:
-
If they are currently receiving mail
through some agency, they can use the
address of that agency
-
If they are currently receiving mail
through a friend or relative that is in one
of the zip codes that SMUM serves, they can
use that address
-
For a small monthly fee, the client can
rent a mailbox at a place like Mailboxes,
Etc.
